Seems like a transformer explosion is unlikely — 1) Because apparently they very rarely create a smoke ring and 2) this was directly above the Anaheim convention center/disneyland area — which I can’t imagine is loaded with transformers.

Seems like the malfunctioning amusement park ride is a plausible explanation though.
