I don't know details, but I've heard that repairing cut fiber optic line is much harder than
repairing cut copper lines, whether they be coax, power, etc.

It makes sense. You can twist copper together with a wire nut and electrons will flow.

Light has to be able to pass through fiber optic from end to end, so it's not like just twisting the ends together will do anything.
