You need a performance index to weigh good wins and bad losses - similar to the point systems that reward road wins and penalize home losses, but neutralize home wins and road losses.

For instance, a 1-seed beating a 16-seed and an 8-seed isn't some major feat - the 1-seed simply holds serve and is right where they should be and is relatively untested at this point in the tournament. So, they should neither gain nor lose points for the conference; but a 6-seed beating a 3-seed is an accomplishment.

+1 point for beating a team within THREE seeds or better of your seeding (similar to a road win)
- 1 point for losing to a team within THREE seeds or worse of your seeding (similar to a home loss)
