Oh boy! How sweet it is!! The team is so well coached and the offense is next level and the defense is just good enough to get wins like this. I remember reading a quote from an unnamed coach before the season started that said that Mag is so good defensively that he will help BYU win at least one tournament game. (Does anyone remember that quote?) The Mag and Stewart combo is so rough on teams. BYU hasn't had multiple defenders like them ever. Abouo was that defender in 2010 and 2011. Now there's two crazy good point of attack defenders. Stewart's story is incredible and something all young kids need to be aware of. The resiliency and patience of that guy is awesome. And on top of that he had some nice offense tonight as well.
I remember last year wondering who our go to guy is and would be. Same thing before this season started. Well, it's now Richie and will continue to be Richie. Who do you run plays for at the end of the game? Your go to guy. Richie delivered. KY knows how to do that from the NBA. Richie will get the ball. Next year hopefully there will be two go to guys with AJ and Richie.
Wisconsin played a ton better in the 2nd half. They hit shots and came back down 10 with about 3 mins to go. Props to them. And it was nice when the refs swallowed their whistle on the very last play of the game. I was expecting a foul when Tonje shot the fadeaway shot. Why in the world he shot a fadeaway shot like that when he had been doing just the opposite the rest of the game...?
Hall had 6 assists and 2 turnovers. Demin had 8 assists and 1 turnover. 14 to 3 for our PGs. Demin is shining in the tournament. He's showing what he can do when the lights are on. His passing is next level. The one turnover was rough but I'll take that to get 8 assists.
I love Bakers herky jerky game. I've said it all season. Those type of offensive players are so hard to guard. He puts guys in jail and then Fouss does the Gortat screen and he's got his guy cooked each time. Hall is also good at that play.
I've never seen anyone trap someone with their groin but there's always a first time. That Wiscy player was putting his groin right where he knew it would be hit if Baker swung his elbow even a little bit. Frustrating call but unfortunately the right call per the rules. I'm not sure how you change the rule but I guess you teach offensive players to take the ball low and not swing the elbows?? Not sure.
This team is so fun! I love that they get to keep playing. Bring on Bama!! (I'm done with St Mary's and don't want any of them. They are our kryptonite.)
Go Cougs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
