Houston's players expect to collide with anyone driving to the basket. They openly admit it. It looked to me like every BYU player that drove to the basket yesterday was fouled in some way. The officials called very few of those infractions, and that was a part of the game that definitely worked against BYU. It seems as if the old days of "the hand is part of the ball" has now metamorphosed into "the arm is part of the ball." If that wasn't the case, we would have seen a lot more fouls called on Houston's hammering of BYU cutters.
They really did call things differently in the WCC. I'm not sure that there is a Big XII team that wouldn't have all their starters fouled out by halftime playing with WCC officiating. Mind you, I am NOT saying WCC officiating was better; it certainly wasn't. But it WAS different than the current Big XII officiating.
BYU will just have to adjust.
