Wants. They did not have mission plans or any real life plan at all. They did not get accepted of course.
But because of CB, I found out about FlexGE and shared it with them and their parents. They both did the program for a year. They got to take BYU classes at the SLC center and in Provo, had meal plans, attended a campus student ward, and had ROC passes and access to all student services. They lived at the Village and joined a bunch of clubs on campus. In that time they decided to serve missions and both were accepted to be full-time BYU students when they get back from their missions.
They were likely near the bottom of the application pile as high school seniors. A year later, they had earned two full semesters of BYU credit and had been admitted full-time. One of them even got selected to be a part of a trial program the second semester where he got to live on campus and take an envelope of freshman classes with all the other freshman. So he had a classic freshman experience in every way that semester.
If your kid wants to go to BYU and they’re willing to work hard, BYU will let them earn it. It’s been miraculous for our family.
