BYU Future Football Schedules - Scheduling Philosophy
BYUs football schedules can be found here:
As I take a look at them here are some of my thoughts:
* 7 home game schedules - it looks like starting in 2026 we can start to expect BYU to be playing 7 home games in even years. We even seem to have a 7 home game season lined up for 2031 with no OOC away games. This is great.
* Big Ten/SEC games - it seems clear to me that the SEC and Big Ten will likely be scheduling very few games in OOC outside of their Power 2 group and Notre Dame. Any game we can schedule against them (Home and Away or even a neutral games) are going to be big time scheduling wins. Right now we only have two of these scheduled in Missouri 2035 and Michigan St in 2032. Let's hope they don't get bought.
* Away games against G6 teams in the East - between our conference games and other series we can schedule against the ACC there's no longer any reason to schedule games against G6 teams in the East (I would make an exception for Army or Navy). The game against Coastal Carolina left a sour taste - no more! We currently have just 3 of these on schedules they are return games from series stat were begun in the Independence Era: ECU in 2025, NIU in 2030, and Troy in 2035.
* West coast - We are lacking games along the west coast and parts of the mountain west where we do have a significant fan presence. We do have games against Stanford, California, and Oregon St which are all great. To keep a presence in the area we should continue to schedule series against Cal and Stanford as well as teams from the new Pac 12 (Wash St., Ore St, Boise St., SDSU, and Fresno St.).
* Rivalry games - it would be great to see some games against Boise and maybe Hawaii on the schedule again. The Boise St series was important for us during Independence and to see games against them in the mix would be nice. I don't care if we never see USU on the schedule again. The last game we played against was bush league.
* Neutral games in Vegas - the games we've played there have been fun. It would be cool to have some more. What if we could have our BYU Arizona games played at Allegiant and State Farm instead of Provo and Tucson. That could be a fun tradition.
Overall I think Holmoe's doing a fantastic job.
