So in the movie a guy shows up at the conclave and says he has a signed ordination to Cardinal certificate by the deceased Pope. He says it’s for Kabul, Afghanistan area which seems unlikely to the other Cardinals.

So he is admitted, and elected Pope after a nice speech, but then they find out he is a transvestite hermaphrodite as the crowds in Rome cheer.

Is this a plausible scenario or are there some safeguards, vetting or background checks the Catholic Church uses to protect the flock?
