Indeed, but on the whole, BYU is way more successful across the board in most all sports than most every other school
out there. So it could be a lot worse to be a fan of many other schools athletic departments.
But the painful part of being a BYU fan is that so many of our teams get so close to something so incredibly amazing, like winning national championships, only to fumble it away so often.
Such as women's volleyball losing in the national championship match some 10 years ago. Then soccer losing in their national championship game a few years ago.
BYU basketball falling to Florida in double OT with Jimmer in the Sweet 16 in a year that they very well could have gone all the way to the Final Four and was even good enough to win it all that year with no real elite teams that year.
BYU football narrowly missing the conference championship game this year and a likely playoff berth. 96 team that finished 14-1 but still being robbed of an Alliance bowl. 2021 team being snubbed of a NY6 bowl because of a loss by 1 yard to CCU in a game that was set up last minute across the country that resulted in the only blemish on BYU's record.
And so on...
But then we have amazing team performances in cross country from time to time, men and women, where both have won national championships recently, and lots of individuals national champions in Track.
Hopefully we see new heights in the modern era of football and basketball in the next few years.
