worked for the church now, I'd get a competitive salary; I interviewed for a position a couple years ago, and they said what the salary range was and it was not below market, at least I didn't think it was. In addition, they automatically contribute 8% of your salary to your 401k, and that's in addition to the normal match and no strings attached (no vestment period). You could contribute 5% and the church will contribute 12% (I think they do 4% if you do 5% or more).
