Giving up two up-and-coming starts plus a boatload of draft picks for a declining, injury prone superstar just didn't make any sense at all.
The thought was even at his age if Durant and Booker with some sort of ragtag team around them could somehow win at least 1 championship it would be worth it.
And now where are the Suns? They're a team circling the proverbial drain struggling to even make it into the last conference play-in tournament spot.
They would be much better now with Booker, Mikal Bridges, and Cam Johnson than they are today. And they'd have a lot more flexibility because they would still have some draft picks and capital to spend.
I really like Durant but it's clear his time has passed, and it was evident when the Suns acquired him. Yes, he is still performing well, but the Suns gave up so much in the deal that they're now unable to build a decent team around him and Booker. I, like many Suns fans, was very disappointed when the Suns pulled the trigger on that deal. They are now clearly in rebuilding mold without many chips to use in the process.
