Neighbor kid attempted suicide last week. He is involved in a lot of activities,
well-liked by teammates, has loving parents (divorced, but 2 sets of very involved parents), and generally seems happy. I know him fairly well and was shocked it would be him.

We all need to know that even the apparently happy and successful people can struggle with things that people don't see or understand. There is a lot going on under the surface. Don't just care for the notably down-trodden. Connect with everyone. Call, drop in for a visit, text, bake some carbs to share, whatever it may be. Connect with someone today.

This particular kid is thankfully okay. He's getting the right help and will come out okay. I hope greater awareness of the reality of mental and emotional challenges helps us catch someone else before it reaches that point.
