The trailer has a battery, it has a computer that allows it to add power
or do regen breaking while you drive to help your car get better gas mileage (but really it's marketed so that your EV can do the towing and still get decent mileage).
When you're already doing that, making it self-drive is a matter of programming I'm sure. No new hardware.
