My brother died of stomach cancer. My other brother told me that when getting a different procedure done, they found that he had a precancerous in his esophagus that he'd never had symptoms for, and thought the same may have happened with our brother who passed. Since I actually do have some of the symptoms, he encouraged me to set up an appointment.
I set up an appointment with Dr Kawa, the doctor who discovered my brother's cancer. He was booked out for three months, so I didn't get in until today.
Apparently I didn't actually have an appointment. The receptionist asked if I had booked online. I said maybe; it was three months ago, so I don't remember for sure. But it's something I probably would have done.
She then let me know that their online appointments don't actually work, but she'd be happy to book me in March. She didn't seem to have any empathy at all for my situation, almost like it was my fault their booking system is broken.
I've waited three months to find out if I have the same cancer risk as my brothers. I wasn't even going to find out today, I would still need to schedule a scope. I'm a little frustrated right now.
