Until very recently, I would watch BYU sports and think about the potential of a team over the coming years. Unless a team was senior laden, the struggles of younger players was unfortunate but could bring dividends in seasons to come. So "flashes" of greatness were only encouraging.
The environment now is so different. Whether due to transfers or turning pro, I feel like every season is only *it's own thing.* Demin making a few perfect passes doesn't fill me with hope, it only makes me think ”Oh, that is the potential that makes him a 1st round draft.”
I have no opinion on whether bringing in One and Dones or other short-term prospects is the right path for BYU. But it has subtly changed how I think about the team.
Another subtle thing, I'm just a fan that likes winning. I'm interested in seeing our players become pros, but it isn't really a substitute for winning games, conference championships, or NCAA runs. Of course, we want them to correlate.
