I sometimes wonder if it's better to be at a "good" basketball school instead of a "great" one and work with "good" but motivated recruits instead of "great" but entitled recruits. We know Cronin is an outstanding coach (his record at Cincinnati speaks for itself) but I wonder whether the increased talent he's been able to recruit at UCLA has come at the cost of increased entitlement.
Basketball seems uniquely susceptible to these problems ("load management" in the NBA; heavy recruiting of AAU teams which leads HS kids to prioritize AAU ball over school ball and AAU tournament play over other games; the NCAA has been dealing with coasting, NBA-bound players for years).
Not great, Bob!
