I hate the defense we run. All it seems to do is eventually leave a wide open 3 point shooter. If we run it more effectively, will it be a good defense or is it just not a good scheme against teams that are half decent shooters from the outside? It feels like teams that are patient and pass the ball around a couple extra times, they will often find a wide open shooter. I know we do run some different defenses, but the doubling of the guy who has the ball doesn't seem to be working. We aren't disruptive enough to get any benefit from that risk and shooters just kill us from the outside.
This team is more talented than last year, but they lack confidence and chemistry. I went to the game tonight and it just felt like we didn't have it - we were down by 5 points with a couple minutes left and my confidence level was pretty low, felt like we would need to luck into a victory if we were going to get it. We don't have anyone that wants to take over or has the confidence to. I know they are still figuring things out, but watching that game in person tonight was discouraging. Glad BYU won that game vs ASU, so in theory we can do it, at least against lower tier B12 teams. Hopefully we can solidify the rotations and play sharper. We just don't look very competent and confident out there. Gut feeling a few games into conference that we are probably a bottom third of the conference type of team when all is said and done, seriously hope they prove me wrong.
One of the more talented players on our team needs to step up and lead this team if we want to have a shot at the NCAAs. Not seeing much leadership at this point, just a bunch of guys doing their own thing.
