Most college towns range from kind of sucky to aggressively sucky

There are very few "power" colleges that are able to balance a desirable location and a good campus environment. Off the top of my head, I can only think of a handful:

  • UCLA (and perhaps USC, although their campus is surrounded by the hood)
  • Texas
  • Ohio State
  • Michigan
  • SMU
  • Washington
  • Georgia Tech
  • ASU
  • Colorado

There are a few more schools in classy but small areas (Virginia, Kentucky) but that's pretty much it. Everywhere else is severely compromised in at least one way.
