I was single and it wasn't a great place for that imo.

I wouldn't really have an issue with it with a family. City overall kind of feels rundown, but the beaches are decent, you can just drive right up to where you want to hang out, water is warm, seems like some ok fishing, some surfing. Food is good, a decent sized ward. University isn't huge or anything but it seems fine. I knew a professor and she seemed to like it.
