At least in many markets. Yeah, with rent at $3k a month and equivalent buy at $4-5k, that’s a no-go.
My area is similar, a same townhouse a few units down from the one I’m renting has been on the market for months. It would cost over $1300 more per month to buy that than it costs to rent essentially the same floor plan equivalent unit.
Buying makes no sense in areas where there is that type of discrepancy between the cost to rent and cost to buy. But it sucks to have to keep plunking down that rent month after month.
