for today this is mine:
I spent two decades as a fan thinking that unless we struck lightning and got a once in a generation McTyer-Morgan CB combo, we were basically doomed to mediocrity and possible flailing inferiority at that position. We had our moments, our Rodney Thomas moments - but mostly for decades we just prayed that we could survive the onslaught of a good QB throwing to good WRs. Even when we had one or two quality starting CBs, we knew that an injury would result in a massive drop.
We went through years of speculating on which Orem High WR walk-on might be the best option to move to CB.
By some wizardry, in 2025, the CB position is losing two extremely good CBs - and remains deep, talented, and ready. It's absolutely insane that I'm more concerned about our interior DL talent and depth than I am about our CB talent and depth.
I think Jay is great, I think Kalani is great, I think a whole bunch of guys are great - but whatever Jenaro is doing is something we can't replace and I'm calling on Ryan Smith and the ghost of Bill Marriott to give him a lifetime contract worth $5M a year plus a private helicopter. And maybe name something after him. Maybe the 40-ish yard line where he iced the 2001 Utah win. Would be cool for future LES public announcements to be like "FIRST DOWN at the Jenaro Gilford 45 yard line."
