I help moderate a Facebook BYU fan page, and you would not believe the amount of membership requests U turn down daily, from scammers in Nigeria and other countries, trying to get in to post the fake stories with links to their spyware filled websites. They also get paid by the website for traffic that can be linked to their posts, so they are getting really good at recognizing the things that trigger BYU, Utah Jazz, and other fan pages. I probably deny 25-50 requests per day, from obvious scammers, unless our BYU Football Fanbase has suddenly jumped up in popularity in Nigeria, India, Pakistan, and Indonesia. I have dropped out of other BYU fan pages, because they are full of the clickbait game articles due to last mods.
They know all the answers that the administrator made up to try and weed out the bots and scammers, and are even going as far as putting stolen profile pictures of BYU fans, whose profiles have visited their pages or accepted friend requests. 🤦♂️ I generally click on their friends list, look at the pages they have liked, and go back a few months, where they suddenly changed from being a white elderly lady from Utah, to suddenly being a Nigerian teenage boy. Ha ha. I give them credit for the research of BYU, and effort they put in.
