18 years ago today my wife’s cousin was shot with a shotgun from less than 20 ft
away while on duty as a police officer after stopping to help a vehicle that was stuck in the snow. It turns out the driver had warrants out for his arrest and he panicked.

My wife’s cousin posted some pictures on Facebook, including the wound after surgery. The wound was bigger than softball size and you could see where the fragments pierced his skin.

Somehow he survived. I think it’s even more of a miracle after seeing the pictures - I hadn’t seen them before.

People are awfully hard on police officers without realizing the officers experience justifiable fear too. They never know when trying to push someone’s car out of the snow might get them shot.
