We did growing up. Kids had a washing machine downstairs and parents had theirs
upstairs.
My dad was a genius. He would always "mistakenly" give my clothes to my younger siblings and vis versa so when I was like 12 I started doing my own laundry. I was the oldest of 5 kids so doing laundry for 7 people it would be hard to have 1 washing machine for all that.

So you could wash all the different colors and whites together? They have things called laundry chutes you know.

yup. Laundry chutes were much more popular 20 years ago. I think now people just prefer to have a washer/dryer on each
