Not surprising, the stats above show that we got our butt kicked. Houston was more physical and had more urgency to win the game. It also was one of those nights where Houston threw shots up and they went in. Granted BYU's defense was not good and left Houston open for a lot of wide open three pointers.
The BYU GameScore of 33.2 was the lowest team GameScore for BYU since the LMU game (32.8) on 1/5/2023. The lowest GameScore last year for BYU was the first Big12 game against Cincy (34.5) on 1/6/2024. Hmmm... Maybe we should just expect to lose the first game of the new year every year and lose it really bad.
When the best player on the team has a GameScore of 8.5 then there's really no way that the team is going to win. Knell actually had a very good game offensively. While Knell's defense might have been not great this game (much like the whole team) I think he needs to start to get some more minutes with how efficient he's been this year on offense. 6 total possessions for Knell is not enough.
Hall had a quiet first half but played better in the second half. He didn't miss a shot. Although it's weird to see him with 0 assists for the game.
Just an overall bleh game. That will happen again in the Big12 this year. Last year there were 4 games in the Big12 where the team's GameScore was at 40 or below (Cincy, UCF, Oklahoma, Texas Tech).
Go Cougs!!
