1. Increase to 16 and get rid of byes. Give automatic inclusion to a certain # of conferences (I.e. top 8 by strength of conference or ranking of champion, or maybe every conference champion that is ranked in the top 30 or something.). Seeding is done 100% by ranking. Winning the conference may get you included, but that is it.

2. But the real change needs to be in how rankings are calculated. “Accurate” rankings are key. With so many teams and relatively few games, accuracy is never going to be great, but it can be improved.

How can teams (and even conferences) be ranked more accurately? Get more better (Bama beating up on Fordham is of no value) matchups and reduce the number of home games. You incentivize this by weighting the OOC SOS and road games.
