Just FYI. It doesn't need to. The first part is for normal targeting. The
Second part is for a defenseless player. Which he was. All you need is forceable contact to the head or neck area, with the players forearm, shoulder, or helmet. Crown doesn't matter.

Unfortunately for him he lead with his helmet which is why it hit first.

That's the only indication you need. People confuse the two rules. The refs don't help either.
