Seems like the defender can't win in that situation. He doesn't know the ball is in the air, and the QB is throwing it into his back. He shouldn't have to get out of the receiver's way. If the receiver stops suddenly and the defender does t have time to stop, it is hard to fault him for that.

It reminds me of basketball when a shooter jumps into the defender to draw contact and get a foul.
