Most AAA game devs seem completely unconcerned with making money anymore
You've seen economic disasters like Concord, Unknown 9 or Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in addition to very disappointing sales numbers in beloved franchises like Dragon Age: Veilguard or Star Wars Outlaws.

There are still a couple of good AAA games every year, but for the most part there are much more interested in subverting expectations, sending a social message or chasing fads that have already died.

Indie gaming is almost the only space for innovation or fun these days, at the very least good at not alienating your core fanbases.
