I started watching BYU in 1996 and I'm wondering if Jay Hill is the best coach we've had since then apart from Saint LaVell.
I think the primary candidates for top coach since 1996 would be Bronco, Chow, and Kalani?
The next tier might be Anae, Shmidt, French, Grimes, and Arod (who I think is good FWIW)
Right now if I had to draft a coach I would take Jay Hill over anyone in those two tiers, no questions asked.
No brainer that he's above guys like Doman, Jaime Hill, Tuiaki, Detmer, Howell (LOL), Crowton, Bosco, Borich (although ringleading the #1 offense in the country is pretty meaningful ...) and Todd Bradford (I don't even remember him lol).
What y'all think? Where does Jay rank? Am I forgetting any other notable coaches? I didn't include position coaches in here, but Gilford probably deserves a shoutout and I liked Doman as a QB coach during that 2005 - 2010 run.
