4xE Jeep Wrangler
I've had a 4xE Jeep Wrangler (Hybrid) now for about 18 months. It now has just under 25k miles and given we are done traveling for high school sports, I'd expect a big drop in mileage this year. The electric battery is designed for about 26 electric miles. It has a lot of pep with that electric motor. If you look at this vehicle from a performance standpoint instead of an efficiency standpoint, it's really pretty awesome.

When we got it, I did expect to save maybe 20 to 40 bucks a month on fuel. The car is used primarily for short trips within town but we also traveled all over Wyoming for two separate seasons for my daughter's athletics. Those long road trips totaled nearly 10k miles and typically run on gas. Despite this, I've worked out that even with the small distance on the electric motor and the long trips in the fall, we are saving around $80/mo. (gas cost decrease with utility bill increase). That's never going to result in some sort of cost recovery for the higher price of the vehicle. I figure after the $3500 tax credit, it would take nearly 8 years to recover the extra costs for the car. It's still well suited for us because it gets used for lots of short trips. Additionally, even with our recent bump in electric rates (we still pay less than 9 cents per KWh) I'm paying $1.6 per charge or 6 cents per mile versus our gas prices at $3.20/gal or 16 cents per mile (based on 20 mpg).

All in all, fun car and a nice surprise that we're saving a little on fuel costs.
