I don't understand how a ref not calling an obvious infraction has any less
impact on a game than a ref making a call where obviously no infraction occured, whatever the sport, however much time is left in the game.

The "let the players decide it on the field", arguement makes ZERO sense to me.

Remember when the refs didn't call pass interference and the Saints were denied a spot in the Super Bowl? Good thing the refs let the players 'decide the outcome' on that one.
