This would make it REALLY REALLY valuable to win your conference.
If there is already a team from your conference in a pod, you drop down the selection ladder to a spot where you are not then in a pod with your conference mates.
(Note, it also makes it really really hard on Conference #4 teams who probably get pushed to the very very bottom of the selection ladder)
So this year....
#4 Arizona State (BigXII)
#1 Oregon (BigTen)
#3 Boise State (G5)
#2 Georgia (SEC)
So then you put in #5, #6 and #7, just like this year, as there are no conflicts.
#12 ______
#5 Texas
..................#4 ASU (BigXII)
#8 _______
#9 _______
.................#1 Oregon (BigTen)
#11_______
#6 PennState
...................#3 Boise State (G5)
#10 ________
#7 Notre Dame
....................#2 Georgia (SEC)
BUT, at #8, you have a problem. Ohio State can't go into the Oregon Pod.
Ohio State can't be #8, or #9, so the fall to #10, against ND to play Georgia
Tennessee become #8, and should then play Indiana who moves up from #10 to #9. But Indiana can't be in #9 slot either, nor #10 since that is Ohio State, not #11 since that is against Penn State. So Indiana falls all the way to #12.
SMU moves up to #9 vs Tenn, Clemson moves up to #11 vs PennState, and #12 Indiana plays #5 Texas.
#12 Indiana
#5 Texas
..................#4 ASU (BigXII)
#8 Tennessee
#9 SMU
.................#1 Oregon (BigTen)
#11 Clemson
#6 PennState
...................#3 Boise State (G5)
#10 Ohio State
#7 Notre Dame
....................#2 Georgia (SEC)
