A Google search shows about 50 million in 1960, so I think my number is more
accurate since 50% of households owned TVs in 1953 and 90% did in 1960.
I will admit that the share of the biggest programs was such that I was probably wrong about the percent of TVs on at the time. But I do think otherwise, my post is way more accurate than the linked tweet, and that many more people watched the Alamo Bowl than the 1953 game.
