The networks have historically set the kickoff times and networks for the first 3 weeks of the season months in advance.

BYU wasn't supposed to be good this past year and so we weren't treated real well. The BYU-SMU game was relegated to Friday night on ESPN2, when looking back, that game should have been on ESPN in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday. They still didn't believe in us when they put us on FS1 (even worse ratings than ESPN2) for the Baylor game. With no ranking and bad networks, we didn't get much attention at the beginning of the season. In contrast, Utah was on FOX twice in weeks 2 & 4 (vs Baylor & OK State) and pulled over 2M viewers in each. We only topped 2M viewers in the regular season against Utah.

Next year we'll be ranked to start the season. We should see more favorable networks and bigger audiences because of it. If we keep winning, it could be real fun to watch the viewership numbers.
