Hill ate himself out of playing WR, and he didn’t transition well to blocking like a TE. His drops and lack of overall productivity are on him. Gilbride’s biggest mistake was allowing Hill to play as much as he did.
Swanson was a true freshman right out of HS. He did quite well to even see the field this season, and this is more of an indictment about the talent that was in the program when he arrived on campus. I expect big things from him in the future.
Like I alluded to before, the TE’s really didn’t have a lot of balls thrown their way, and they were generally one of the last reads in the progression. The WR talent was much better than the available TE talent, so they got the touches. Historically, BYU has not had a WR roster quite like this on a very consistent basis.
