We were over the runway, only about 10' from touchdown on a clear Fall day (in Oct IIRC). Suddenly the engines were screaming and the pilot pushed the nose at a high angle and off to the right (towards the airport - we were landing on the East runway, heading south). We cleared the tower and headed West towards the smelters at Kennecott, still climbing. No one knew what was going on.
After about 3-5 minutes (what seemed like an eternity), the pilot came on speaker and said that there had been an incursion by another plane and he had to take emergency evasive actions. He apologized for not being able to tell us what was going on (due to his trying to evade not only the plane, and airport, but also other planes on approach in the landing pattern). We landed safely a few minutes later.
Oddly enough, there is no record of it that I can find online. Also odd is that SLC had been leading the way in improving incursion safety at that time.
