the charts. There are obviously some fantastic people in academia, but there are also a lot of really bad ones, even in the mainstream majors. I’ve never seen such a disparity between perceived self importance and actual value provided as in academia.
There is an annual industry conference I attend every year that’s a collaboration between industry and academia, and some of the professors see at this thing are absolute train wrecks.
Because of that false sense of value, they think every single program they come up with is absolutely essential and that cutting it will lead to the downfall of education. When in many cases, it’s not true.
I feel like BYU keeps the balance much better and has a much higher percentage of professors who are grounded than other schools.
