LaVell's teams were known for their physicality. I remember Troy Aikman saying after their BYU game that Coach Terry Donahue had told his UCLA team that BYU was going to be their most physical game that year. They all laughed at him and said that they played in the PAC 10, so they weren't worried.
After the game, Aikman said something along the lines of "I've never been hit do hard in my life. We all believe Coach now."
To see BYU start to return to that reputation is something I am excited about. Today's recruits are also freakishly fast, too.
Go Cougs!
