As a person and representative of BYU football and his faith, Jake is stellar. It's very easy to root for someone like Jake.
Jake made some improvements in the offseason and they served him well. He was also able to retain some of that swashbuckler spirit. Most of the time he was fun to watch. Jake made some good throws and bailed BYU out with his feet several times.
Unfortunately, Jake's passer rating and completion percentage aren't what they should be. His TD to INT ratio is good but he tends to throw interceptions at times when ball security is paramount. While you must take the season in totality it's tough not to think there wasn't some regression in the ASU, KSU, and CU games. There were other times when BYU came out flat and had to pull a rabbit out of the hat to get the victory.
Providing he works hard in the off-season and continues improving, I'm all for Jake starting again. However, Kalani and Roderick would be derelict if they didn't find a QB to challenge him for the job. Jake simply hasn't been good enough to not feel some pressure.
On the whole, I'm very happy with the season. Hopefully, we can reload and challenge again next year.
I read the news about Tanuvasa after posting this. I can't wait to see the Ute meltdown on X.
