If you merely “develop” great players than logically it doesn’t matter who you recruit as you can always just “develop” anyone on your roster to do the exact same things right? If this were the case then there would be zero drop off from year to year as the coach would naturally want to share his developing abilities with every player under his stewardship.

But since it doesn’t work like that, coaches always hope to bring in great players who make the coaches look like geniuses.
