Jake may take a huge leap forward this off-season, or he may not. Either way, it is good to have QB depth. If Jake gets better and beats out the competition next year, then we have a quality backup who can play if Jake gets hurt. If Jake doesn't get better, then strong competition can either push or replace him next year.
What I know for sure is this- BYU was nearly a playoff caliber team this year, and there is a good chance that whether we are able to take the next step forward next year will depend on whether we can improve our offensive numbers such as total offense, third down conversions, QBR, etc. That was the difference between us and the top ten teams this year- just a bit better offense/QB play.
