My view on BYU's top institutional football offseason priorities to accelerate the momentum of the last 5 years (three 10 win seasons, Big12 invite, undefeated against rival, etc.):
1 - Make huge updgrades to the recruiting function - BYU has done amazing things with recruiting classes ranked in the 50s or 60s nationally, but ultimately we need more of the top LDS and Utah HS kids to come to BYU. We still don't spend nearly as much on recruiting as other schools do, and this is something we can unilaterally change.
2 - Get ARod a Gary Anderson. Gary has been fantastic as a defensive analyst. Probably as impactful as Jay Hill according to the insiders. Need to get ARod just as high of quality of help. Whether you love ARod or hate him or are somewhere between, the reality is he's going nowhere so the key is getting him more help so he produces even better results.
3 - Lean fully into the new NIL world - this is obvious
4 - Sprinkle some more magic growth dust on Retzlaff - he went from having no business being a P4 starter in 2023 to being honorable mention all Big12 in 2024. That's MASSIVE growth. If he can grow anywhere near as much this next year, 2025 could be really fun. Admittedly this isn't something BYU can unilaterally do like the others on this list, but it would be so impactful its worth mentioning.
Wild Card: Find some ways to leverage the Church's unique advantages. For example, we're experiencing huge growth in Africa. How many Ziggy Ansah's are there that we could identify and develop if we invested serious dollars in running football camps in Africa? Another example is Sitake talks about how much it would help to have Ricks back - can the Church utilize its school system to get a JC program up and running somewhere? Those are things few other institutions can do but could have a big impact at BYU.
