FWIW I don't hate Jake Retzlaff. I appreciate the way he's represented BYU and his fire. It's interesting, however, that
people think by posting his stats I'm hating on him. What stats did I leave off that would show that he's anything but an average quarterback (and in some stats, below average)? Like other people have said, that doesn't mean BYU wasn't a great team this year. But our excellence on the field was largely due to superb special teams, above average defense except on 3rd downs (and in a few games, incredible defense), and great supporting cast on offense (Chase Roberts and depth of RB). But we are not deep on the OL. Jake was rarely anything but average.
People point to Steve Young and others who had lots of interceptions, too. I'd like to see how many times they threw the ball compared to Jake. Again, stating his stats or calling him average is not "hating." But when I get on here after a game and see people touting that he was great except for a few throws ... I'm sorry, but Jake's red zone turnovers are EXACTLY what makes him average. BYU left so many points off the board this season from red zone turnovers (including red zone turnovers on downs) largely due to Jake's poor decisions and inability to see the open man in those situations. Jake's mistakes was one of the pieces that turned us from a 11-1 team to a 10-2 team that just missed out on the playoff.
Doesn't mean I hate him.
