Based on what we knew then, SMU deserved the spot.
Sure, we beat them H2H. But they had fewer losses, only lost to a ranked team, and didn’t have a stinker like we had with Kansas.
If the shoe were on the other foot, we would be screaming bloody murder if a 2-loss team got in over a 1-loss BYU team. And rightfully so.
