I guess living in a big city, I see a lot of “underprivileged” kids go the
college route expecting to make good money, have a tough time landing professional jobs, and either end up in a call center or back in low skill service jobs. The college promise of great careers does not materialize for many many people.

It has materialized for me and I’m super grateful for that. But I guess I look and see how unsure the path is, especially if you don’t have a family member who has tread that path before. I don’t look at trade schools for the relative wealth cause I make great money, but I see it as a more sure does path to a comfortable income than college is these days, especially if you don’t get soft skill training in your home.
