Also, I am loath to suggest it, but once I stepped on my kindle (this was 15 years ago) and I called amazon and told them it broke when I stepped on it and they sent me a new one for free. Best customer service I ever had. I said, "Are you sure? I did step on it," and they still sent one.
You might call them and explain what happened. I don't think it's J.Crew's responsibility to replace them, but some places are so fanatically committed to customer service that they might comp you a pair or do something else. I think this also makes sense at places that are making a healthy margin (cost of goods to them is way lower than price to buy again would be).
