I felt safter in the snow in my RWD BMW E36 than my Audi AWD B6 S4...
The S4 had a lower/stiffer suspension that made finding good winter tires difficult (even sizing down).
However, my normal AWD A4s were absolute beasts in the snow with most all-season tires.

Just because we need more car talk… revisiting RWD v FWD in winter. I like the way this guy tests.

FWD and understeer is against my religion. I absolutely despise the feel behind the wheel, I'd deal with RWD oversteer

But FWD is better for peeling rubber. 😉

Hahah, I love it. While I'm a die-hard RWD acolyte, FWD in that application actually makes sense. Your maintenance

Yes and wet grass and a slight incline is death to these beasts though.

My dude if you're noticing understeer on public roads, slow the freak down

I can notice understeer on FWD cars on left-hand turns at 10mph. The steering fights you, it's especially obvious if

Bring your FWD car up to my house and I'll let you drive some of my RWD ones. I have a pretty good inclined hill in the

I'd be interested to know why you think it can't be felt in everyday driving.

I was hoping I posted it on this site 20 years ago (I read it while I was in college), but seems it must have been print

I think the “FWD is way better in the snow” mantra comes from

This is exactly why I bought a helicopter. Never truly safe driving in snow.

Ya, but the exhaust note of a Ferrari in the snow is not to be missed.

I’d be curious how this works out with all season tires.

Now do the test with a soccer mom at the wheel trying to remember 10 different things and driving is 11 on the list. lol

Fair point. Taking driving decisions away from the driver has its meaningful applications.

Yeah my take away was his 2nd to last sentence- RWD more fun. FWD more safe

For drivers like him the systems aren’t necessarily safer. The car responding to your inputs and being predictable…
