On offense he also had Hall of Famers Lynn, Swan, John Stallworth, Franco Harris and his Center there were 11 Hall of Famer‘s on those teams and Preston Pearson Frenchy Fuqua, Rocky Bleier Were also good.
Rocky Bleier was always a favorite as he was drafted into Vietnam after his rookie year with the Steelers. Took shrapnel to the thigh in Vietnam was told he would never play football again, but came back to win for Super Bowls. Also won a national championship his senior with Notre Dame.
Even Bradshaw, a well-respected player, admitted that Gilliam was more talented. Gilliam started six games for the Steelers before losing the position to Terry Bradshaw. He led the club in passing that season with 1,274 yards.
Gilliam got the start when Bradshaw and others were striking. He had a 4-1-1 record and played really well
Gilliam was the first black QB to start an NFL game. When he was benched for Bradshaw for the playoffs, some speculated it was because he was black.
