Very high death rate for bomber crews.
During World War II, more than 55,000 men from the Royal Air Force (RAF) Bomber Command died in Europe, and over 26,000 airmen from the US Eighth Air Force were killed in action:
RAF Bomber Command: 55,573 men died out of a total of 125,000 aircrew, which is a 44.4% death rate. The average age of death was 23.
US Eighth Air Force: 26,000 airmen were killed in action, and 23,000 became prisoners of war.
